JW Lees Powers Up 13th Pub Experience with Be.EV Chargers, Strengthening Its Community Centric Approach....

Leading EV charging network, Be.EV, today opens its thirteenth charging hub at a J.W. Lees pub, the Boat and Horses (Broadway, Chadderton, Oldham).

This is the thirteenth Be.EV charging hub J.W.Lees has installed, deepening the collaboration between the two North West based companies.

The partnership helps to align the rapid growth of electric vehicles with the vital role pubs play as vibrant community hubs, highlighting this shared focus of both the hospitality and EV charging sectors.

At present, the Oldham West, Chadderton and Royton constituency ranks 273rd for the number of chargers per EV. This figure does not consider the additional numbers of EVs coming in from the nearby M60 motorway, with the nearest exit only 50 metres away.

The location is well positioned to service the demands of the 128,000 strong local population. The EV chargers serve as a magnet to the pub and address the local gap in charging infrastructure.

At the site drivers can plug in, head inside for food or a drink, use the facilities, and come back to a meaningful top-up without having to build a separate charging trip into their day.

The Boat and Horses charging hub has been designed for EV drivers with no home charging options, while continuing to service patrons of Manchester’s longest operating brewery. The nearby Costco also allows drivers to fit in their grocery shop as well.

It follows the same “charge where you already go” approach as Be.EV’s destination sites like Hulme Retail Park and the Manchester Charging Oasis. The chargers on-site can add 165 miles of range in just a short 20-minute stop.

By putting local, reliable, ultra-rapid chargers alongside everyday amenities, drivers can plug in and top up while they’re doing something else.

Both North West based companies have succeeded, despite the overarching challenges of their respective industries, by focusing on customer experience and the demands of their respective local communities.

JW Lees has focused on delivering community crafted experiences at each of its venues, offering high-quality, locally brewed beer, great food and quality bedrooms alongside live music and events.

Meanwhile, Be.EV’s strategy revolves around installing EV charging at locations that are practical and pleasant for drivers to use.

This convenience-led mindset from both companies has led to success, with JW Lees posting a record-breaking performance in 2026 and Be.EV expanding to become the one of the fastest growing charge point operators in the UK.

Be.EV CEO Asif Ghafoor says: “As our partnership with JW Lees continues to evolve, it’s the right moment to add practical charging where people already stop. We know that most drivers want to charge somewhere pleasant and convenient. Nobody likes sitting somewhere for 20 minutes with nothing to do. Putting ultra-rapid bays at J.W. Lees locations means you can plug in during a normal visit, use the amenities, and get back on the road without turning charging into a separate trip.”

JWL spokesperson William Lees-Jones says: “We have partnered with Be.EV for three years now and EV charging is something that our customers are looking for when they come to our pubs. As an EV vehicle owner myself I know the challenges of range anxiety and the reliability of EV charging stations and I can be seen regularly charging my car at one of Be.EV’s 28 charging bays at 13 different JW Lees pubs.”
